Propane as an alternative fuel

heating oil

Propane is a by product derived from refining natural gas .It is also called as Liquefied petroleum gas.  Across the United States the distribution system has made propane available at vehicle stations.

Propane fuel has wider applications apart from its general applications like fuel for hot water and barbecue grills. Propane is used as fuel for thousands of taxis, buses and forklifts, across the nation.  It is the third vehicle fuel most commonly used across the world.  The filling stations in U.S. made it as an alternative fuel.

Propane was chosen as an alternative fuel when it was found that LPG emits ozone, at a larger extent.  Propane is a product of petroleum reserves, which has secured a great demand in the country.  The auto mobile manufactures do not reveal that they can produce propane powered vehicles.

Using propane as a fuel, we can save money since 85% of propane used is generated by domestic resources. It helps a lot for US economy.  It also helps to reduce the dependence of the nation on imported oil moreover gasoline engines can be converted to propane with small modifications.

Though propane is less expensive than gasoline it has lower energy ratio.  We should careful to use this as fuel to travel a long distance.  Just like gasoline propane vehicles also produce ozone but not to a greater extent.  Bio fuel vehicles tests and light duty tests revealed that toxic emissions like butadiene, benzene, acetaldehyde; formaldehyde gets reduced by using propane rather than gasoline.
